What is Writer’s Block?
Writer’s Block is a Nashville-style songwriters-in-the-round concert series, where three artists (one local, one regional, and one national/international) share the stage, take turns playing songs, and collaborate on each other’s music. It’s all-acoustic and designed for intimate listening, storytelling, and connection—a night where you get to hear the songs and the stories behind them.
Why does Writer’s Block feel… different?
We’ve had both performers and audience members say that Writer’s Block feels a little weird—but in a good way! Here’s why:
• No microphones, no sound system—just music. It’s 100% acoustic, as if the artists are playing in your living room. The experience is raw, intimate, and completely unfiltered.
• The house lights stay on. You can see the performers, they can see you, and—unlike most concerts—you can also see everyone else in the audience.
• It’s about community, not just music. One of the first songwriters’ rounds I ever attended was set up this way, and it had a huge impact on me. When I moved to a new city (Portland, OR), being able to actually see the audience members at each show helped me find my people. I’d recognize them around town, say hello, and over time, they became my community. That’s exactly what I hope Writer’s Block creates—a space where music brings people together, and those connections last beyond the show.
So, yeah—Writer’s Block is a little different. But if you give it a chance, I think you’ll find it’s also something special.
