The new season of Writer’s Block begins April 16 at the Bartell Theatre.
If you’ve been to one of these nights before, you know the idea is simple: great songwriters, a quiet room, and an audience that listens. Three artists share the stage in a Nashville-style Songwriters in the Round, trading songs and stories throughout the evening. No band, no distractions—just the craft of songwriting, up close.
This season opener features three remarkable writers, each bringing their own voice and perspective to the circle: Ellis Paul, Stone and Snow, and carisa.
Ellis Paul is one of the most respected voices in contemporary folk songwriting, known for songs that are both deeply personal and widely resonant. Over a long and celebrated career he has released more than twenty albums, earned numerous songwriting honors, and influenced a generation of writers through his music and teaching.
Ohio’s Stone and Snow bring a thoughtful blend of indie folk and Americana, with songs that balance intimacy and atmosphere. Their music feels both timeless and modern—rooted in story, melody, and a sense of place.
Former Madisonian carisa is a rising voice whose songs combine emotional honesty with a striking vocal presence. Her writing moves effortlessly between vulnerability and strength, creating moments that feel both deeply personal and instantly relatable.
Together they’ll share the stage the way this music was meant to be heard—song by song, story by story, each writer building on the last.
Writer’s Block is about more than a concert. It’s about creating a listening room where songs can breathe, stories can unfold, and a community of music lovers can gather around the simple power of a well-written song.
